Spuds: It's a beautiful day, let's shoot! 1 p.m.?
CLG: Got other plans.
Chairman Mosko: I'm there!
XPGreg: (sound of silence)

2 pm, an hour late, Spuds pulls up at the range. He's the first one there.
2:05 Chairman Mosko arrives
Conversation ensues.

Mosko: See my new UAE? Don't tell anyone I bought it.
Spuds: See my new M94/14? Tell everyone I bought it cheap.
Mosko: See my new Portuguese Vequiro? (sp?)
Spuds: See my new Finn M27?
Mosko: See my new GEW88?
Spuds: See my new Finn M28?
Mosko: That's all for me.
Spuds: See my new Hakim?

Much more gabbing, talk lasts the obligatory hour or so before we finally unload our vehicles and carry our instruments of war to the firing line.

Mosko: See that bottle about 85 yards down range?
Spuds: Yep, I've been shooting at it with this CUGIR .22lr single shot for the last 15 minutes. I think I hit it once.
Mosko: Watch this. (Thunder roars from UAE and bottle LEAPS in the air and flies further down range.)
Spuds: NICE! Where's my camera? Got to get a pic of you shooting a UAE.
Mosko: No pics. And if you tell anyone I was shooting it, I'll deny it.
Spuds: You're safe, I ain't walkin' all the way back to the car to take a pic of your mug.

Mosko: (takes out Portuguese Mauser) Watch this. (Lighter thunder roars from rifle and bottle leaps in the air and flies further still down range.)
Spuds: NICE! I think I hit it again a minute ago.

Mosko: (takes out GEW 88) Watch this. (Still more thunder, bottle leaps in the air and, well, you know the drill by now.)
Spuds: NICE! You do that again, and I'll hit it with the CUGIR while it's still in the air.

More talking ensues, a few more rounds fired in betwixt still more gabbing, finally 4 hours later the cars are loaded and we leave.

It was a beautiful day. Shooting with a friend made it more so.

Next time.........try to plan these things a little more in advance. The night before is almost always going to be too late for me as I like to have the weekend planned out by Thursday night.

I am disappointed that Spuds has "leaked" the information that I bought and then subsequently fired a "UAE", (ugly Ass Enfield)!

I really don't know why, (meaning that I have absolutely no logical basis at all for my opinion) I dislike the Enfields so much. I'm not going to admit how many I have, but there's a few. I have never fired any of them but on one occasion, when I initially cleaned and tested them for proper function.

All of them are accurate, and functioned flawlessly. I just can't seem to make myself take one to the range on a regular basis where anyone else but closest friends will se me.

I'm sure it's some kind of mental disorder, because obviously, there's nothing at all wrong with the weapons. Actually, being honest, and considering their usfulness and reliability, they're probably as good as they come.

I just think they are severly "fugly", even much more so than a Mosin or MAS!

And that dear chairman indicates how severly warped your taste in firearms is.The beloved Enfield is a beautiful fine operating piece of masterful British engineering.
I always thought that Spuds and I shared a common bond in our appreciation of these lovely rifles and now I fully realize how much closer that bond is.(Group hug)
Regardless you still remain my friend and I will hope that you soon recover from the obvious impairment you seem to suffer. If the so called "UAE" offends you that much you may feel free to box it up and send it to me to remove it from your sight and I will imprison it with it's brothers in the deep dark recesses on my steel box in which I incarcerate it ugly ass brothers. It's the least I can do for you and I will gladly bear the burden of it's presence to help you.

Stan

P.S. You would put tire tracks in your shorts if you saw my latest wire wrap and how ugly it is yet how accurate it has proven to be.

CLG: Put some spontinaety in your life! And get your priorities straight, range time is more important than blogging.

Mosko: Re: Leak, Don't be disappointed, what are friends for? :D

Stan: Mosko has more UAE's than he will admit, I've seen 'em. Took me a while to catch and surpass his in number, but I'm way ahead of him now. The particular UAE he shot yesterday was a Ishapore 2A, he thought it less offensive since it was a 7.62 I think. In truth, I feel if any rifle in the Enfield line deserved to be called a UAE, it'd be a 2A or 2A1. Still, it extracted better than any 2A I've handled. I acquired another a few months back and traded off my old representative sample in hopes the new one would work better, but haven't gotten it to the range yet.

I wasn't blogging, I was out of town most of the day Sunday and had already planned to be. I know this may be blasphemy here, but some of us have actual lives and they don't center around guns. Guns are just ONE of the many things that I like to do, it's not the ONLY thing.

Makes me wish I was there. Sounds like me & Stan shooting. Not a whole lot of shooting going on. Mostly we just smoke cigarettes, laugh at each other, talk about life (women), guns, gunshows, & mostly nothing really. And then again how can it be nothing if keep doing it?

But when we do shoot it's pretty good too! Stan can be deadly accurate with his rifles. He earned the nickname Dr. Nagant some time ago when I traded/sold him a couple of beater m44's. Ugly, mismatched pieces, but man what shooters.

Glad you guys had a good time! :grinning-thumbsup:

Yeah......when I do make it to the range I probably do the least shooting of anyone. The main reason I go is to see if anybody brings something interesting that I've never seen before or just to catch up with old friends. If it wasn't for the group I shoot with, I doubt I'd ever go if it was by myself.

One of these days, once we settle on where we're going to live, I'm hoping to get a few acres, enough to put up my own little range so that I don't even have to leave the house unless I want to.

I guess I'm the odd ball................ I like to go to the range alone and try to hit times when I don't think there will be many or any folks there....... I get out to shoot so rarely that I'm there to SHOOT!!
