BEAR FROM ALASKA (pictures below)

Now....THAT'S A BEAR!!!!!!!!!!! The pictures are of a man who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska and his trophy bear.He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy emptied his 7mm Magnum semiautomatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several times in the head. The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds. It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder; 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world. Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport to remind tourists of the risks involved when in the wild.Based on the contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans in the past 72 hours including a missing hiker. The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had originated, found the hiker's 38-caliber pistol emptied. Not far from the pistol was the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found.Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four shots (the Service ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body), it only wounded the bear and probably angered it immensely. The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker. If you are an average size man Think about this: You would be level with the bear's navel when he stood upright. The bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional perspective, consider that this particular bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof, or walk up to a two story house and look in the bedroom windows.

Oh my, oh my, oh my!!!! Sounds like the 7mm was barely adequate for the job. I'm thinking one of those .50 cal pistols is minimum in that country, for a sidearm, and maybe a full auto .50 for the main arm.

Guys, this one has been going around for awhile. The missing hikers is new to me. Granted, there are BIG bears up here, but I am a bit skeptical of this one.
I saw a pic of a bear in a gun shop in ANC, and talked to the guy who took the pic. It was shot on Afognak Island near a logging camp, so they had heavy equipment. They weighed it, and it was almost 1600 lbs. So they do exist. The bear in these pics was shot in S.E. Alaska, on Admiralty Island, if I remember correctly. P.S. if it shows up at the airport, I'll let ya'll know, as I go thru there twice a month.

I am a bit suspicious of the pic of this bear because of the composition; ie, the angle and proximity of the second photo. I am posting a pic of a bear I took in 1983 on Kodiak. This Bear squared 9'5" and the skull measured 24". He was in his 7th year when I caught him. Notice the composition of my photo vis-a-vis the other. This bear we estimated at 1,000 pounds, as it took the 2 of us 3 or 4 tries to roll him over so we could skin him. My pard and I were about 5'7", averaging 170 lbs. I cannot offer an explanation for the first photo other than this guy had some big feet! (Not unusual, have seen small bears with BIG heads).http://www.hunt101.com/img/394667.jpg

CLG I think these pics have been out for at least a year, if not longer.

I saw that same picture for the young man and the "paw" 3 or 4 years ago in PA. The story then was that the guy killed it with a bow. Naturally the picture was in an archery shop.

Iquitos, what is the rifle you used? Somehow looks tiny compared to the bear.

I'm not sure how long this has been out or what ever the story says that is one BIG BEAR in the picture.
