I confess to not having a clue but reasoned Nagant was correct in that it was a Savage, looked like one to me too. Google to the rescue. Found one for sale that provided a decent description, in case anyone is interested I'll quote it below.

This model of Savage pistols was manufactured in the period of 1920-1926. The design is based on Savage M.1907, with spur cocking piece and trapezoidal grips. The left side of the frame displays following markings, "SAVAGE 1917 MODEL". The upper part of the slide is marked, "SAVAGE ARMS CORP. UTICA N.Y. U.S.A CAL. 32 PATENTED NOVEMBER 21, 1905. - 7.65 M-M.". Original ten shot magazine. Fixed back sight.
