Never have I shot a high powered rifle with such little felt recoil. I don't much cotton to the hula hoop rear peep, but at -10F, who can keep a rifle steady?

What's not to like!! :headbanger:
I guess the peep sight is an acquired taste, but having been brought up on them I personally prefer them to the leaf-style rear sight.
The main trick with the peep sight is to simply ignore it and focus on the front sight. Your eye will naturally center the front sight as long as you don't think about it too hard.
Maybe that's why I like them so much... no thinking required! ;)

True, true, them peeps are an enigma to me, when I boresighted it, the dot was right where it should be. Gonna have to grub up lots of ammo and keep practicing.

I now have four No. 4's, and to this date have only shot the Maltby, which has a Mk. I sight on it. Stan in SC gave me a reload that is a pleasure to shoot, although I haven't had the opportunity to test it for accuracy, just plinking, more really to make sure they go bang. I hit anything I shot at around one hundred yards, but haven't put it to paper yet. A surprising pleasure to shoot, unlike some of my Mausers, which can really pound a guy after several rounds. I was using the peep sight on the Mk.I, and couldn't see any reason the flip sight wouldn't be good, also, remembering it is set for three hundred yards. Aim low.
The other three I have is a Savage, flip sight, a Long Branch with Mk.I sight, and a Long Branch that was FTR'd to Mk.II configuration and hasn't been issued since then, Mk.I sight and new barrel. I would like to find a Fazakerly from around 1943 or 1944 to go with the others, and then a new Fazakerly Mk.II built in the '50's. Too much to ask?

I love my No4 Maltby "Custom Carbine" I call Stubby. I love the rear sight and it's smoothness too. It is a sheer joy to pack along with its relined and Match bored 16 1/4" barrel too. Recoil is almost non existent and it will group 10 rounds of the Winchester 180 gr. Power Point ammo into one hole at 200 yards, provided I do my job. ;) I'm not too big on the Remington R.N.S.P. fodder.
