I picked up a very nice 81DL with a peep sight have no idea how old it is.
Took it apart and cleaned all the dried up grease and lubed it. Went to the range today and was ablolutley amazed the way it functioned ate everything I feed it and at fifty yards every shot went into a dime sized hole. This is a real keeper.

Marlin made the 81DL from 1939 through about 1965, with time out for WWII arms production taking priority. They have a reputation for being accurate and reliable. Sounds like you found a good one! If you can, we'd love to see some pictures of your treasure!

i picked up a marlin model 81dl about 5 years ago with the intent of giving it to a grandson.. i tolld him that he had to go shooting with me for a safety leson then he could have it.. he never came over to go shooting so i decided to keep it. put a varmit scope on it and murdered sage rats this spring. grandson is into music and church dosent have time for grandparents or shooting. things have changed so much i would have walked on broken glass or hot coals to shoot when i was his age. but it is to late now i like the rifle and if he shows up just to get the rifle i wont give it to him. argie1891
