This has got to be it. I bought this one in either late '86 or early '87. I was in the USAF Reserves @ Duke Field, FL. One drill weekend my pal Rick came in to the office and threw down an ad from a gunshop in Defuniak Springs (about an hour or so away). It had Ruger MkII's on sale for $179. I really didn't want to spend the money because at the time I had just come off active duty out of the Army, was living at home with my parents, & just enrolled back in college. So I told my pal Rick that I'd have to take a pass because I just couldn't afford it.

Nonsense he proclaimed. He then showed me a wad of cash & said I could pay him back when & if I could. What could I say? I mean how could I tell a friend no? :dontknow:

We piled in a blue USAF truck  & drove to Defuniak Springs. We got to the gunstore & I purchased a box of .22 cartridges & the Ruger. Here she is 2,844,067 rounds later:

She has some history behind her too. I sold her to my ex-brother in law about a year after I got married because I needed $100. That sucked. About a year later he was broke and asked if I would buy it back from him. So, I bought it back. A year or two later he bought it from me again, and yes, I ended up buying it back from him again, for the last time. I told my ex the last time I got it back that this time, this one was staying with me!

I've only cleaned this pistol once in my life. Yet, she still functions flawlessly. A real gem. My first gun! Woohoo!!

Thanks WmRoy! Now that I'm a little older I can really appreciate things in life that just aren't so grand. In fact, while I enjoy shooting her occasionally I really get the biggest kick out of watching my 13 year old daughter & 14 year old son take turns at the range plinking. They take turns with each other shooting 10 rounds at a time until the ammo is gone...

I just gotta quit buying them bullets in 450 round boxes though!!

Dog, You "Dog", ya had to rub it in now didn't ya? LOL! That sure is a gem for sure buddy. You really have that many round through it though? I want to get one like it, but with the Bull Barrel though. Again, nice pistola. ;)

Hmmm. NOT sure how many rounds I've put through her exactily but it's been a bunch. In fact, I've had this pistol (on & off) since 1987 & I think I've only cleaned her once. Maybe?

My MkII is my favorite pistol too!! In fact, went shooting with some buddies this past weekend and between the four of us we had 3 MkII's and a 22/45!! :headbanger:

One of the many goofy things we did that day was to do a simultaneous rapid fire and see how fast all 4 of us could collectively put 40 rounds downrange. Sounded like a swarm of really angry bees ripping through when we cut loose! What a hoot!!!!

BTW, I think I've cleaned mine once too. No where near as many rounds, but all I ever do is hit it with a squirt of CLP and it keeps chugging along!!

Maybe not quite that many rounds through her but you know what I mean. Come to think of it, I don't even remember how to take her apart... :o

the mk2 is on my list of some far off day i want to own...but the durn ny state permit keeps me from it. years ago when i was able to hunt i thought that the mk2(with scope) would make a nice little gun for popping squirles.
