Hi all!

I have a Winchester M-2 carbine .30. This is an original, never been used, in perfect condition. Where would be the best way to showcase this gun? Are there any museums that would take an interest in this?

since its considered a machine gun i hope you have the proper paperwork to go with it otherwise its a liability with jail time attached , having said that i ask ..."This is an original, never been used, in perfect condition" ... where would you get such an animal ?

these have been out of production for many decades , i would think such an item would already be associated with some museum , particularly if in "that" condition ,

i was once 'baited' by someone with such an item - this is an honest , law abiding , collectors group , we dont buy illeagal weapons , and we do not participate in the discussions of illeagal transactions - no matter how they are disguised ,

if on the other hand you legally own this and honestly want to transfer it to a museum - contact them , they are on line , they may well be interested and most likely have the propper paper to recieve such an item ,

if there is someone here who would "buy" this without the paper - go for it , we dont want you among us

The gun belonged to a family member currently in a nursing home. It is registered, legal, etc... I am not at all familiar with firearms. I was just wondering if this is rare? I will ask my aunt more questions about where it came from. I am not "baiting" anyone! This is out of my knowledge base. I am not the least bit in anything "illegal."

OK - you sound legit , so my recomendation is to first contact a lawyer[to protect your interest] , and the BATF [to keep youself clear of jail time] , and do not offer this for sale untill you have all the facts straight and paperwork in order ,

this may well be a run of the mill M1carbine that you only think is an M2 , but to be safe its paramount that you determine the truth , do not make any assumptions based on what you may read on the internet , if its an M2 as you say , it is a machine gun by classification and falls under a whole different set of rules than standard milsurps , it is imperative that you comply at once ,

im not in the least interested in these as i have no interest in the added compliance requirements for the novelty of owning a full auto firearm , there are those out there that are , im more interested in you staying legal and out of jail ,

AND - i am interested in this forum , its reputation of being a collector forum , and of being one that has law abiding members that treasure our "RIGHT" to own firearms under our constitution ,

i will add that i believe the writers of the constitution might take issue with any restriction of the "RIGHT TO OWN" including full auto , but for now we comply with the laws and 'hope' for a a better time when 'change' will come to allow us our FULL rights under the constitution again [note my aquesence to "hope and change" is tounge and cheek] but for now i comply and uphold the laws of the USA

Thank you for your response. I am going to get more information on this today. From what I gather, it has been in my uncle's possession (legally) for 25 years. I have an attorney who is working with me on this because I certainly don't want to become a felon with young children! I really appreciate your responding to this. You are most helpful.

If it is an M2 carbine it will have a selector switch for semi/auto firing. And it will be marked M2.

You might check around for a Class 3 dealer to also help you out.

If the M2 is legally registered you will find some papers. You can only transfer it to another liscened personef with that person paying a $200 fee. I can give you the email address of a friend who has a liscene if you email me and maybe he can give you more info. I would leave it where it is till you get information. Even it is legal you would not be legal to have it in your possession

i trust based on the followup posts that this is proceeding well ? we all here wish you well , and want for you to get a reasonable amount if you sell it as well as staying out of jail ,

i hope you did not find offense in my original post , but you must understand with todays gun laws [which i believe are unconstitutional] you cannot be too carefull nor careless ,

the BATF also runs scams to trap individuals on sites like this that might be less consiencious in obeying the law , i do not find this practice totally faulty - there was a terrorist type caught on another site i was frequenting years back , im OK with that ,
i get a little testy because i was targeted by either an attempted BATF scam , or a seller without scrupples once also a few years ago , i want it known i do not break the law , and all that i befriend on these sites are equally complient , we care about our rights

all that said i wish you well and wealth in your transaction when it completes , i think you chose the right path
